Our May boxes included the following novel: Will Ferguson's "The Shoe on the Roof"

Why the Shoe on the Roof?

After a very intense thriller last month, we chose a philosophical but suspenseful book for May. Will Ferguson brilliantly visits the fine line between sanity and madness and plays these states out through the clash between science and faith. The protagonist, Thomas Rosanoff (researcher and medical student) finds himself on a journey of self-discovery as he works to claim the life he wants and deserves. We hope you’ll love the story of Thomas trying to win back his girl, and crawl out of the shadow of his father all through an experiment centred around curing three homeless men who all claim to be God.

Sweetsmith Candy Co. - English Toffee - Boston is the location for this story, which was named for Boston in Lincolnshire, England. Nibble away on this treat as the suspense builds in this book. Will Thomas cure these men? Will he get the girl? Will he finally get out of his father’s shadow? https://sweetsmithcandyco.com

Kyoto Coffee - Colombian Irish Cream Coffee- When Thomas visits Sister Frances they drink coffee as they talk. With Boston’s reputation for being home to many people of Irish descent, we took this as our inspiration for an Irish Cream flavoured coffee from our favourite local roaster. http://www.kyotocoffee.ca

Walton Wood Farm - The Week From Hell Hand Lotion- While the novel covers more than a week, we couldn’t resist the name on this lotion after the hell that Thomas goes through in the book. https://www.waltonwoodfarm.com/

Fred and Friends - Shoe Eraser – We loved this shoe as an obvious connection to the title of the book and a metaphor for what Thomas is trying to do with his past and his experiment subjects, erase the Messiah and find the man inside. https://www.genuinefred.com/

Perth Soap Company - Leather and Vanilla Soap - The three homeless men needed some cleaning up after Thomas took them into his care to begin his experiment. We felt soap like this would be precisely what Thomas would have in his bathroom. https://perthsoap.com
