Our February boxes featured Heather O'Neill's novel The Lonely Hearts Hotel

Why The Lonely Hearts Hotel?
The Lonely Hearts Hotel by Heather O’Neill drew us in from the very first page. While it contains some graphic and disturbing content it brings forth the beauty, the grit and the loss of innocence is captured by O’Neill in a powerful and compelling way. While at its heart, The Lonely Hearts Hotel is a love story, in reality, it is a novel about making your way through life understanding the complexities of power, drugs, sexuality, and performance. Set in the underworld of Montreal in the early 20th Century and Great Depression we see a story filled with love, loss, sexual abuse, dancing, magic, and gangsters. While a difficult read in many ways we couldn’t put it down. *Trigger Warning* Novel contains sexual violence.
